Tioga Downs history and current owners

Tioga Downs was originally named Tioga Park, established in 1976 as a quarter-horse track. In 2005, a real-estate executive and horse owner, Jeffrey Gural, purchased the park for $32 million. At the same time, Gural lobbied for the state of New York to approve video lottery terminals at horse racing tracks, a proposal that received approval later the same year.

The renamed Tioga Downs opened in June 2006 as a racino with simulcast betting and around 800 VLTs. After securing a license to become a full-fledged casino, Tioga Downs added table games and a poker room in December 2016. The FanDuel Sportsbook location opened in July 2019.
