The 2019-20 NBA Futures Market Is Open And Here Are The Odds

The 2018-19 NBA season is over. It ended last week when the Toronto Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t continue betting on the NBA at sportsbooks in the eight states with legal sports betting. In fact, most sportsbooks have already opened up NBA futures markets for the 2019-20 NBA season. These markets allow you to put money down on your favorite to win it all next year.

The NBA futures market odds are bound to fluctuate as a busy off-season continues.

This is the time when teams are putting together their rosters for the 2019-20 NBA season. They do that through various trades, the upcoming NBA Draft (June 20), and free agency (June 30).

In fact, one team has emerged as a favorite to win it all next year after a massive trade was put together right after the NBA Finals.

The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to trade a group of talented young players and draft picks to the New Orleans Pelicans for superstar Anthony Davis. That me
ans Davis will join three-time NBA champion, four-time NBA Most Valuable Player, and three NBA Finals MVP LeBron James in LA next season.

It also means oddsmakers in NevadaDelawareNew JerseyMississippiWest VirginiaRhode IslandPennsylvania, and New Mexico now have the Lakers as favorites to win the NBA Finals.

NBA Finals uncertainty

Normally, either the defending champion or the NBA Finals runner up would be the early favorite to win next year.

But despite winning the franchises first NBA championship last week, there is uncertainty surrounding the Toronto Raptors. 2019 NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard can opt out of his contract and become a free agent on June 30.

In the meantime, there is even more uncertainty surrounding the 2019 NBA Finals runner-up Golden State Warriors. Stars Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant could both become free agents this summer. Plus, both suffered major injuries that could force them to miss all or part of next season.

Oddsmakers appear to be giving the team with the best 2018-19 regular season record its due. The Milwaukee Bucks have slid up to second in most 2019-20 NBA futures markets.

The Denver Nuggets finished second to the Warriors in the Western Conference. However, the youngest team in the NBA Playoffs this past season sits somewhat surprisingly much further down the list.

In the meantime, the Los Angeles Clippers are suddenly contenders based on rumors they may be able to sign Leonard. Plus, the Brooklyn Nets are in the top ten based on rumors they may be the front runners to sign a top free agent like Kyrie Irving.

That said, Irving may also sign with Lakers, reuniting him with James. The pair led the Cleveland Cavaliers to a championship in the 2015-16 season.

Sports betting on a Lakers superteam?

Alongside Davis, that would make the Lakers a superteam and likely an even bigger favorite to win the 2019-20 NBA title.

For now, you can also bet on the Lakers to win over or under 54.5 regular season games at -110 at most sportsbooks. But that could change dramatically if the Lakers do sign Irving or another marquee free agent.

It appears the NBA Draft will be drama-free with Zion Williamson the overwhelming favorite to be the Pelicans No. 1 pick (-8000 on FanDuel). More on the best NBA draft betting sites.

However, Toronto traded their way to a title by acquiring Leonard in the off-season last year. Therefore, several NBA teams may look to follow their lead this summer.

So, don’t be surprised if the Lakers-Pelicans deal isn’t the only one that has an impact on the 2019-20 NBA futures market over the coming days and weeks.
