Pennsylvania Gambling Revenue Soars Over $450M In October

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) released figures on Thursday revealing Pennsylvania gambling saw online casinos and sportsbooks reach revenue highs for October.
The combined total revenue of $450.2 million was generated from all sources of gaming revenue, including:
- Retail slot machines
- Retail table games
- Online casinos (slots, table games, poker)
- Sports betting (online and retail)
- Fantasy contests
- Video gaming terminals (VGTs)
The total revenue figure is higher than the $425.9 million generated in October 2021. And a 0.4% increase from $448.5 million made in September 2022.
Pennsylvania gambling record highs in October 2022
Once again, retail slot machines were the primary source of revenue, contributing $199 million, even though that’s 2.1% lower than in October 2021. Compared to last year, retail table games revenue was also 10.4%, down by $79.3 million.
Online slots surpassed retail table games and became the second-highest gambling revenue source in the state. Last month, online slot machines generated a record $86.3 m
illion, which was a 22.1% year-on-year increase.
Online table games revenue was also 21.8% higher at $35.7 million generated in October. However, Internet poker revenue saw a 12.7% decrease of $2.5 million.
Meanwhile, revenue from VGTs increased 5.2% to $3.5m for October 2022, but fantasy sports contests revenue dropped 12.7% to $2.5 million.
Pennsylvania online casino strong in October reaching $124.5M
As for the online casino vertical, Hollywood Casino at Penn National led the way, generating $52.7 million in revenue. That included:
- $35.2 million from slots
- $17.2 million from tables games
- $308,814 from online poker
Rivers Casino Philadelphia followed with $29.3 million in revenue. Valley Forge Casino Resort was next with $23.4 million in online gambling revenue.
Looking at the online casino vertical’s revenue in general, here’s a total breakdown:
- $86.3 million came from slots
- $35.7 million came from table games
- $2.5 million from poker
PA online sports betting revenue hits $40.5M in October
When it comes to sports betting revenue, the record for handle set by PA sportsbooks saw a total of $797.1 million in October. The figure is 2.7% higher than last year’s $776.3 million and a $151.9 million surge from September 2022.
PA sports betting revenue from last month was also 72.2% higher Y-o-Y at $40.5 million, with $34.4 million coming from online betting and $6.1 million from retail.
Valley Forge Casino Resort and FanDuel remained the market leader producing $22.1 million in revenue from a $292.0 million handle.
Hollywood Casino at the Meadows and Barstool followed with $7.8 million in revenue and a $231.1 million handle.
Meanwhile, Rivers Casino Pittsburgh and BetRivers made $2.6 million in revenue from a total handle of $33.4 million.
