New Hampshire March Sports Betting Handle Sets Record, But Revenue Falls

New Hampshire players set a new record, spending $103.4 million betting on sports in March.

Out of the total $103.4 million, players wagered $93.4 million online and $9.98 million at retail sportsbooks across the Granite State.

The New Hampshire Lottery also reported the state’s gross gaming revenue of $4.8 million from sports betting.

New Hampshire smashes previous sports betting handle record

New Hampshire sports betting handle surpassed the previous monthly high from January 2022. The state’s new record is almost 4% higher than the $99.5 million set in January last year.

The $103.4 million is also a significant year-over-year increase compared to the $78.8 million in March 2022. It also represents month-over-mon
th growth compared to $87.0 million in February this year.

For the state’s fiscal year to date, the betting handle for the nine months, including March, was $727.1 million.

New Hampshire revenue shows a yearly increase but decreases monthly

The state’s gross gaming revenue during March was $4.8 million and that’s more than a 90% yearly increase from March 2022’s $2.5 million. But the revenue number is a month-over-month decline compared to $7.1 million set in February 2023.

Of the 4.8 million, $2.8 million came from online sports betting, whereas $2.05 million was generated from retail sports betting. DraftKings is the only sports betting operator in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire’s revenue share was $2.1 million in March, according to the NH Lottery. As for the state’s FY2023, the gross gaming revenue totaled $62.9 million, with tax (revenue share) at $28.8 million.

When will New Hampshire legalize online casinos?

State lawmakers have scheduled a public hearing on a New Hampshire online casino bill for Tuesday. Members of the New Hampshire House Ways and Means Committee will discuss five gambling bills, including SB104.

If all goes well, SB104 will allow the state to offer legal online table games. At this point, the lawmakers did not include online slots in this measure.

If Gov. Chris Sununu signs the bill, New Hampshire will be the first US jurisdiction to legalize online casinos in 2023.
