Live in Chicago? Here’s A Quick Guide To Indiana Sports Betting

If you’re like me, you live in Chicago, about 20 miles from the Indiana border. But if you weren’t aware, the Hoosier State recently launched Indiana online sports betting, opening a Pandora’s box full of options for those looking to place a few wagers.

Here at Play USA, we decided to give you an easy guide on how to bet in Indiana if you live in the Windy City or Illinois in general.

Indiana sports betting basics

Last week, Rush Street Interactive and DraftKings became the first two operators to launch online sports betting in Indiana. So, for starters, head to the App Store on your phone or tablet and download the BetRivers or DraftKings sports betting apps. (Functional for both iOS and Android.)

Since you live in Chicago, you won’t be ab
le to load any funds, place any wagers, or create a sports betting account while in Illinois. Indiana uses geo-location, which allows the state to track where bets are coming from, and this prohibits players from placing wagers outside of Indiana. However, once you cross the border into Indiana, you will be able to use all the bells and whistles included on the apps.

The good thing about Indiana is you don’t need to drive to a casino to sign up for an online account. Per the Indiana sports betting law, customers can sign-up remotely instead of doing so in-person.

Closest locations for Indiana sports betting

You have to cross into Indiana to begin placing bets online, but if you feel more comfortable at a physical location, there are a few options for you to consider.

  • Ameristar Casino Hotel in East Chicago, Indiana, is roughly 40 minutes from the heart of the city. Here you can place bets in-person or online via the DraftKings app.
  • Horseshoe Hammond Casino is another option for customers to place bets; however, you can only do so in-person.

If you live in Western Illinois, a closer option might be to travel to bet in Iowa, where online sports betting is also legal. Here are some options for retail and online betting in the Hawkeye State.

Additional Indiana sports betting tips

Indiana online sports betting is only a few weeks old, but it will undoubtedly generate significant traffic for the state.

Given that this is the one time a year where all four major sports (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL) are taking place, the state launched mobile operations at the perfect time

The NFL is in full swing, as is college football, and the 2019 NHL season is about to begin in addition to the 2019 NBA season. Lastly, MLB playoffs are just heating up.

Customers have the chance to bet on all professional and college sports right now, as well as place in-game wagers. If you’re not familiar with how those work, take a look at Play USA’s rundown on NFL prop bets for a quick refresher.
