New York Monthly Gambling Figures Are Down Overall In April

According to the New York State Gaming Commission’s latest report, players gambled over $1.54 billion on sports betting apps in April. The commission reported that NY sportsbooks provided $70.8 million in state taxes last month.

Meanwhile, the commercial segment of New York casinos brought in nearly $59 million for the state last month.

New York online sports betting handle shows monthly decrease

The $1.54 billion total handle ranks seventh all-time for New York since January 2024, when online sports betting launched in the state. January’s $1.79 billion remains the state’s betting handle record.

The April handle is a 14% monthly decrease from a $1.79 billion recorded in March. However, the figure is a year-over-year increase from April 2024’s $1.39 billion.

Combined, NY sportsbooks collected $138.82 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR). As a result, the state gathered just over $68 million in revenue for the month, with $70.8 million in state tax revenue towards education. The revenue figure significantly decreased from $83 million collected in March.

k online sportsbooks must pay the state a 51% tax rate of their revenue. Since the beginning of last year, New York sports betting has produced over $22 billion in bets.

Retail sports betting revenue April breakdown

When it comes to sports betting numbers for individual casinos:

  • Tioga Downs reported a loss for the third consecutive month. The casino paid out $7,973 on $380,209 in accepted bets.
  • del Lago Resort reported a sports betting handle of $1.56 million, earning $184,172 in revenue.
  • Resorts World Catskills’ sports betting handle was 1.3 million, while sports betting GGR totaled $67,039.
  • Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady reported $2.3 million in betting handle with $201,244 in gross gaming revenue.

Commercial casinos generate $58.85 million in April revenue

The New York State Gaming Commission released the April report for the following NY brick-and-mortar locations:

  • Resorts World Catskills
  • Rivers Casino and Resort
  • del Lago
  • Tioga Downs

The total revenue from New York gambling on slots, retail sports betting, table games and poker for April 2024 was $58,853,187.

Resorts World generated $18.99 million in April 2024, slightly less than last year’s $20.2 million for April. Resorts World is the only retail casino in New York that reported a monthly increase in April. The figure is a slight increase compared to March 2024’s $17.2 million.

Rivers‘ revenue from slots and table games in April 2024 came to $16.99 million. The figure is a monthly decrease from March 2024’s $19.58 million. It is also a yearly drop compared to $17.74 million from April 2024.

del Lago generated $13.57 million in April, a yearly decrease compared to $14.06 million from the previous year. The figure also represents a monthly drop from the $14.396 million generated in March.

Lastly, Tioga Downs‘ revenue came up to $9.3 million. The number is less than the $9.5 million generated same time last year. It is also less than $9.6 million reported in March 2024.
