[toc]A Portland, Oregon pro football prognosticator known only as “Granny’s Boy” proved he can sure pick’em during this year’s National Football League season. Granny’s Boy won the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook’s 2017 SuperContest and its $1,327,284 first-place prize as the NFL regular season wrapped up this past weekend.

Granny’s Boy is choosing to remain anonymous and go only by the name of team he used in the contest as a nod to the woman who raised him.

The biggest SuperContest ever

Westgate’s 2017 SuperContest saw a record-setting 2,748 entries this season. Contestants pay $1,500 to enter, and pick five games against the spread each week using Westgate sports book lines. This was the first time the SuperContest had a first-place prize of more than $1 million.

Granny’s Boy finished the season with a record of 58-22-5. That gave him a total of 60.5 points. Entries Schematic Advantage and HowDoIPlay XX both finished with 59 points. Schematic Advantage won a tiebreaker to take second place and $530,913. HowDoIPlay XX earned $265,456 for third.

In an interview with the website Covers.com, Granny’s Boy described how he thought he was out of contention after going 1-for-5 in Week 4 of the contest.< /p>

He was down four points. However, he went 4-for-5 in Week 5 to cut into the lead. He kept climbing until ultimately taking the lead in Week 12. At that point, Granny’s Boy claims he knew he was going to win it all.

The numbers spoke to Granny’s Boy

He said the stars were aligned as he took the lead going into Week 13 after growing up on 13th and Fremont in Portland. In fact, his address was 1326 Northeast Fremont, just one number off the $1.327 million first-place prize.

Granny’s Boy said the numbers spoke to him, and he knew he was going to hold on to the lead.

Heading into the final week of the NFL regular season, Granny’s Boy led second-place HowDoIPlay XX by 2.5 points and third-place Schematic Advantage by 3.5. He needed to go 3-and-2 to win it.

Wins by home favorite Detroit Lions over the Green Bay Packers, road favorite Buffalo Bills over the Miami Dolphins, and home favorite Atlanta Falcons over the Carolina Panthers secured the victory. Granny’s Boy was wrong about the New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 17, finishing 3-and-2 and missing out on a chance to tie the record for the fewest losses in SuperContest history at 20.

Granny’s Boy admitted the run was more stressful than enjoyable. In fact, rather than joy, he said winning gave him a feeling of relief and the chance to finally relax now that its over.

Westgate Las Vegas Superbook’s SuperContest Gold also wrapped up this past weekend. The similarly structured sports betting contest came with a $5,000 entry fee and a winner-take-all format. Stag Capital won $470,000 after going 4-1 in Week 17 to finish with 52 points. Midwest Square also went 4-1 to finish with 51.5 points in second place.
