Is FanDuel New York available for online betting?

Yes, as of Saturday, Jan. 8. FanDuel was part of a winning bid for a license from the state in October. There are three other legal online options available in NY besides FanDuel on Saturday, those being BetRivers Sportsbook, Caesars Spo
, and DraftKings Sportsbook.

How did things progress to this point in NY? Earlier this year, former NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo was able to get the legislature to include an amendment to the state’s budget that legalized online sports betting in the state. Late in October, the NY State Gaming Commission awarded the licenses.

As the Commission and FanDuel worked through the process, FanDuel received approval to begin full operations in the state well ahead of the official NY sports betting launch target of Super Bowl LVI. FanDuel is currently offering a choice between two incentives to those who sign up now.

What are the launch offers for FanDuel New York?

There are advantages to each offer, so which you choose depends on how you plan to make your first bet with FanDuel. The options are:

  • Bet $5, Win $150 in actual cash
  • A risk-free first bet of up to $1,000

The Bet $5 Win $150’s advantage is clear. It offers real money you could withdraw immediately if you wanted to. The risk-free first bet is paid in site credit, which you would have to successfully wager before it becomes actual cash.

There’s still an element of risk to the Bet $5 Win $150 offer, though. You do have to place a winning wager to get the $150. The deal is essentially an odds boost that takes your odds on your first qualifying bet up to +3000. Thus, if your bet loses, the sportsbook keeps your $5 wager and that’s it.

If you’d rather opt for bigger potential or want to try FanDuel out with diminished risk, you should consider the risk-free first bet. This offer is essentially a mulligan of sorts. If your first qualifying bet is a loss, FanDuel will cover your loss with site credit equal to the value of that wager or $1,000, whichever is lesser.

Again, though, that’s site credit, not real money. You can’t withdraw any of that value as winnings unless and until you place successful wagers with it. It does give you a second chance at that amount, though. While you’re deciding on these offers, you can get started with FanDuel.

How to take advantage of your chosen bonus

To be eligible for this promo, you must be at least 21 years of age and brand new to FanDuel Sportsbook. As long as that’s you, all you have to do is get FanDuel’s app onto your Android or iOS device, then sign up for an account in NY.

Not only is the app free, but an account with FanDuel is free as well. Signing up is easy and quick. The app should walk you right through the process. In case you’re curious about what’s involved before you start, though, here are the details.

Is FanDuel really ready to duke it out in New York?

FanDuel is the market leader in many other states with legal online sports betting. Certainly, promotions like this have something to do with that. However, FanDuel isn’t the only sportsbook to offer potentially lucrative deals.

FanDuel’s leadership is about much more than its marketing spending. Its app has all the features you could want. It’s easy to use, features many ways to fund your account and withdraw your winnings, and is constantly improving.

Facets of the app that bettors in other states have come to love include free live streaming of select events, a handy same-game parlay tool, and top-notch in-game betting markets. Of course, varied and frequently updated odds boosts don’t hurt either.

If you’ve already given FanDuel a spin in other states or just want to check out other NY sportsbooks, then you’re in luck. The other launch offers in the state are:

Those who sign up for FanDuel now will get a chance to pick between these lucrative welcome offers. Whether you choose to go for the money or cover your risk, it will be a great way to celebrate the start of legal online wagering in NY.
